A Few Words
About Us

Teplov CPA provides bookkeeping, tax compliance, and tax planning for self-employed Canadians whose income does not fit a standard template. We work with IT contractors, mortgage agents, insurance brokers, trades contractors, real estate agents, and real estate investors who want a CPA relationship rather than a call centre experience.
Our practice is built on a simple principle. Tax software files returns. It does not make the decisions that change what you actually owe.
When should you incorporate?
Which expenses will stand up to CRA scrutiny?
Did you cross the GST/HST threshold months ago without realizing it?
These are judgment calls. They require professional context and continuity.
We focus on helping clients build financial systems that make each year easier than the last. The goal is not to scramble through tax season and start over every April. It is to create structure, visibility, and better decisions throughout the year.
Our Approach
Industry-Specific Knowledge
The tax questions facing an IT contractor differ from those facing a mortgage agent or a trades contractor. We understand those differences and structure your file accordingly. Your income pattern is not something we re-learn every April. It is context we already maintain.
Professional Judgment, Not Data Entry
Should you incorporate?
Are your quarterly installments accurate?
Did you miss a GST/HST registration deadline?
These are not checkboxes in a form. They are professional decisions that require a CPA who understands both your industry and your numbers.
Year-Round Financial Clarity
Clean books throughout the year turn tax season into a review rather than a crisis. We handle monthly categorization, reconciliations, and GST/HST tracking using Xero and QuickBooks Online, configured for self-employed income structures. When filing season arrives, your records are organized and ready.
Responsive and Direct Communication
You work with a CPA-led team that responds the same day during business hours. There are no ticket systems and no call centres. You should not wait days for answers to straightforward questions.
Long-Term Relationship Focus
Many clients begin with tax preparation and later move to ongoing bookkeeping once they see the benefit of structured financial records. Continuity matters. A CPA who understands your file year over year identifies risks and opportunities that a new preparer may overlook.
Built-In Tax Planning
We do not wait until March to tell you that a June decision would have changed your tax outcome. Incorporation timing, deduction strategy, and installment planning are discussed during the year, when they are still actionable. Tax planning is not an optional add-on. It is part of managing your file properly.
Professional Background
Teplov CPA is led by Alex Teplov, a Chartered Professional Accountant registered with CPA Ontario and also designated as an ACCA member in the United Kingdom.
In addition to accounting credentials, Alex holds master’s degrees in Management Information Systems and Human-Computer Interaction. This technical background informs how we implement cloud accounting systems, automate workflows, and support the digital platforms self-employed professionals use daily.
We maintain professional liability insurance and operate as a firm registered with CPA Ontario. Our services are limited to bookkeeping, tax compliance, and tax planning. We do not provide audit, review, or assurance services. This focused scope allows us to concentrate on our core strengths.
Why Clients Work With Us
Clients choose our firm when they want accounting and tax support delivered by a CPA who understands their income structure.
Many of our clients earn from multiple sources, operate across provincial lines, work with US clients, or receive irregular income throughout the year. Self-employed income is often misunderstood by generalist firms. We regularly handle T4A income, commission splits, subcontractor payments, rental allocations, and platform-based earnings.
Our role is to organize and report income in accordance with Canadian tax requirements while providing year-round financial clarity.
We provide structure, continuity, and informed guidance. Not generic advice.
Service Model
We help clients maintain organized books, file returns correctly, and make better tax decisions throughout the year.
For tax preparation, we provide CPA-led T1 returns, T2125 self-employment schedules, T2 corporate returns, GST/HST registration and filings, and quarterly installment calculations. We also advise on incorporation timing and related tax considerations.
For bookkeeping, we maintain monthly financial records using Xero or QuickBooks Online, configured for self-employed income structures. Clean books support accurate filings and clearer insight into business performance.
Our objective is to meet your current needs while helping you build stronger financial systems as your income grows.
Beyond Work
Outside of professional work, Alex enjoys tennis, golf, and sailing. These activities reinforce principles that also guide the practice: preparation, discipline, patience, and doing things properly rather than rushing to completion.
